After ording some Picaxe 08Ms from ebay, I finally got around to wiring one of them up with a simple serial programming interface and output to a couple of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and with a simple basic program got them to work as expected.
I highly recommend Picaxe processors to anyone out there who has been hesitation to get involved in embedded programming, etc. because the barrier to entry is low. The price is low and the simplicity allows someone like me without a lot of hardware experience to actually wire them up and make them work.
